Nigerian officials baffled by unclaimed millions

Officials in Nigeria are baffled as to why nearly $800m in lottery winnings have gone unclaimed.

Micheal Jongani, President of the Nigerian National Lottery claims his staff have gone out of their way to track down winners.

Most of the unclaimed prizes seem to be held by British and American expats. We’ve written to them, called them multiple times and have sent them email after email. All of this has been totally ignored.

The funds will be held for up to 12 months after the ticket was purchased, after which, the money will be burned.

Don’t think, just because we’re African we’re in desperate need of money. We’re drowning in oil and diamonds down here! We have no use for more money!

In related news, the nephew of the disposed King of Swaziland still says he’s looking for somebody overseas to accept large amounts of cash to pass through their accounts. He says he has been disappointed that people don’t answer emails once he asks for the fees required for paperwork.

You don’t get something for nothing you know!
